DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Barcelona
Looking out over the Mediterranean sea, Barcelona is one of Spain’s top destinations. Wander through the wide avenues and octagonal blocks of the carefully planned Eixample district, explore tiny alleys in the Gothic quarter or soak up the atmosphere over world class food and drink.
The architect Gaudi is synonymous with Barcelona, and no visit to the city would be complete without admiring one of his works. His masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia cathedral, has taken over 130 years to build and is still unfinished today. His work can also be seen in the fairytale gardens at Parc Guell, or get a taste of turn of the century lifestyles at La Pedrera apartment block.
Miro and Picasso spent time in Barcelona, and both have extensive museums dedicated to their work. Climb up Montjuic (or take a cable car) for stunning views over the city and ocean, as well as the Fundacio Joan Miro. Hang out in the sculpture garden before heading around the hill to see the 1992 Olympic park.
