DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Reykjavik
The capital of Iceland has grown in popularity over the years despite being the most northerly capital city in the world. Just south of the Arctic circle, the warm Atlantic currents mean that temperatures are actually fairly mild even in the depths of winter, meaning Reykjavik is good destination all year round.
Get your bearings by heading up the hill to Hallgrímskirkja, the city’s cathedral. Designed to look like columns of basalt, the spire towers above the city and can be seen for miles around. Catch an elevator up to the top for fantastic views of the city, the bay and the mountains beyond.
Reykjavik is very walkable and most attractions can be seen on foot. The main street Laugavegur is lined with cafes, bars, restaurants and shops and makes for a pleasant stroll. At the end you’ll find the opera house, Harpa, whose glass panels shimmer and reflect the changing light throughout the day.
