DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Marrakesh
Marrakech is less than 4 hours from London, but feels like another world. Lose yourself in winding souks before watching the sunset over the minarets and mountains from a rooftop cafe.
The souks and markets are undoubtedly one of the top attractions in Marrakech with stalls spilling out every doorway into the narrow alleys and passages. Haggling is a must and stallholders are good-humoured and friendly. Don’t be afraid to walk away if you think the price is too high. Look out for rugs, leather goods and spices in particular. Head to the main square Djema el-Fna in the evening to see touristy snake charmers or dancers, but look for the food stalls busy with locals for a more authentic experience.
If it all gets a bit too hectic, head to the idyllic Majorelle Garden in the newer part of the city. Formally owned by Yves Saint Laurent, the garden is an oasis of calm with palms, succulent plants and cooling water features. There’s also an exhibition of traditional Moroccan clothing and a cafe to recharge in.
