DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Kingston

Often voted one of the most beautiful islands in the world, Jamaica is a great location for both first time Caribbean visitors and old hands alike. From luxurious all inclusive resorts to homestay bed and breakfast there’s accommodation for every budget. The island also has a fantastic mix of activities, with idyllic beaches, jungle hikes to hidden waterfalls and a world-famous music scene.

Away from the picture postcard beaches, Jamaica’s interior is well worth exploring. Head up in to the hills to find places such as the Irie Blue Hole, a series of stunning waterfalls and pools hidden deep in the forest. Another highlight for hikers is Blue Mountain. Get up early to be at the peak as the rises. Adrenaline seekers can also raft along the Rio Grande Valley.

Reggae is one of the most famous exports from Jamaica, and you can learn more about one of the genre’s superstars at the Bob Marley Museum. Set in his former house, many of the rooms are preserved they way they were when Marley lived here. Other places of interest to music lovers are the Peter Tosh Museum or the Alpha Boys School – many of Jamaica’s top musicians studied here and current students put on regular performances. Alternatively get tickets to the annual Reggae SumFest which attracts big names alongside up and coming artists.
