Tokyo is a huge metropolis that is both incredibly futuristic and strangely old fashioned. From the dazzling neon lights of the Akihabara and the eccentric fashions of Harajuku to the calm of the Meiji Shrine and beautiful gardens of the the Imperial Palace, Tokyo is a city unlike any other.

For early risers, head down to Tsukiji Fish Market for the legendary tuna auction. Huge fish caught and frozen out at sea are sold to restaurants and shops all over Tokyo at this daily 5am auction. A limited number of viewers are allowed in to the auction hall so go early to grab your spot. Apart from the auction, there are thousands of stalls selling every type of fish imaginable. For some of the freshest sushi you’ll ever taste, check out the small bars around the fringes of the market.

Tokyo is one of the biggest cities on Earth, with a hyper-efficient transport system allowing the suburbs to stretch for miles. Get a view of the metropolis from one of the many skyscrapers with public viewing platforms. Try the Tokyo Tower or the Tokyo Government buildings in Shinjuku. Go on a clear day for views all the way out to Mount Fuji.
