Bahrain’s capital, Manama, seems like a typical Gulf city with its trading history and modern oil riches, but Manama has a different feel. Bahrain has embraced migrants over the years and as such has a diverse and mixed culture with a cosmopolitan feel.

There’s ancient artifacts from the prehistoric civilisations that inhabited the country, a recreation of a traditional market and displays showcasing both traditional and cutting edge art and sculpture. Stop off at the stylish cafe for some upscale people watching.

Bahrain is also notable for its great shopping options. There’s malls with high end designer brands, through to ones with cinemas, waterparks and amusement parks. For a more traditional option, wander round the Manama Central Market. This is where locals go to buy fresh fruit, vegetables and fish caught merely hours before.
