One of Europe’s greenest capitals, Oslo in Norway is a hidden gem. With great food, an amazing arts scene and plenty of beautiful parks and waterways to explore, Oslo should be high on your list of places to visit.

The city is very different depending on what time of year you visit. In summer, head to the Nordmarka forest to forage for berries, while in winter the same forest is criss-crossed by ski trails. For a taste of culture in good weather, the sculpture park with 212 works by Gustav Vigeland is hard to beat. The works range from traditional fountains being held up by giants to surrealist sculptures based on the theme of the tree of life. The new opera house is another must see. Take a guided tour to learn more about how this stunning building combines public space, personal experience and performance areas with amazing views over the waterfront.

Finally, try some neo-Nordic cuisine at one of the many restaurants in the city. Look for foraged wild ingredients that take you on a journey around Norway, with many restaurants offering tasting menus which showcase the best produce from around the country.
