DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Perth

Looking out over the Indian Ocean, Perth is a remote urban oasis in the deserts of Western Australia. With a relaxed atmosphere, fabulous food and great weather it is a draw for both locals and visitors alike.

A perfect place to get your bearings and relax is the King’s Park. Overlooking Perth from the top of a steep hill the park has a cafe, playgrounds, walking trails and a visitors’ centre offering guided tours. Also inside the park is the Botanical Garden, showcasing the plants and trees that are found in Western Australia. Kids and adults will love the treetop walkway, which snakes through the tops of the trees for over 200 meters.

To find out more about the Noongar indigenous people that first settled in this area, head to the Art Gallery of Western Australia. There are several rooms that just show art by Aboriginal artists, made using both modern and traditional materials. The annual Indigenous Art Awards are also displayed here which is an easy way to get an insight in to contemporary Aboriginal culture.
