Las Vegas is an oasis of pleasure in the middle of the Mojave desert. It’s possible to spend your whole stay in one of the luxurious casino resorts but there’s plenty to explore away from the Strip.

Head to the centre of Las Vegas to explore Fremont Street. The original gambling district, the area has been reinvigorated by a canopy of lights that create a spectacular light and sound show each evening. You can see more of Las Vegas’ history in the Neon Boneyard. This outdoor museum salvages vintage neon lights and is best visited in the evening – book ahead as tours fill up fast.

Save some cash for the many shows and clubs in Las Vegas. Many of the world’s top performers have residencies in Las Vegas, with concerts by the Backstreet Boys, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey all booked in for Autumn 2018. There’s also top comedy and cabaret with Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Maher and Cirque Du Soleil performing.
