DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Vancouver

Vancouver sits overlooking the Pacific ocean and is the biggest city in British Columbia. With easy access to the sea, islands, rainforests and the Canadian Rocky mountains, as well as a vibrant cultural scene, Vancouver is often rated one of the best cities in the world for quality of life.

Taking a stroll around Vancouver’s oldest district is a great way to get a feel for the city. Known as “Gastown” it is a maze of cobbled streets and quirky buildings, full of independent shops and cafes. There’s even a steam whistle clock to add to the old fashioned feel.

Get out of the city with a trip to Grouse Mountain and the Capilano Suspension Bridge. In summer, Grouse Mountain offers spectacular views over the city and out to sea, with a pleasant cable car journey saving visitors from a steep hike. In winter it’s a great ski and snowboard spot. Capilano is a rainforest valley running in to North Vancouver. It’s crossed by a traditional wire and board suspension bridge that sways 70 metres above the trees. There are also zip wires, observation points and native Canadian totem poles to spot nearby.
