DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Seoul

Seoul is the capital of South Korea and a mix of futuristic modern skyscrapers and traditional Korean homes and temples. It’s also one of the few major cities in the world that is surrounded by mountains, making it easy to get away on a countryside hike while also enjoying spectacular views of the Seoul skyline.

Explore traditional Seoul with a visit to the Bukchon neighbourhood. This area has a high concentration of intricately patterned and tiled traditional “hanok” houses. As well as checking out the quaint streets, there are high end art and craft shops selling traditional items. Complete the experience with a visit to a tea house.

If all that sightseeing makes you hungry, head to Gwangjang Market for some incredible street food. With over 200 stalls there is something to entice every palette. Try some kimchi or bibimbap, a rice dish topped with a mix of vegetables. Another must try food is Korean barbecue. Tender cuts of meat are grilled at the table before being mixed with rice, vegetables and kimchi. Each restaurant has their own recipe marinade or seasoning, an excellent excuse to try several different versions!
