DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Mumbai
Known as Bombay until 1995, Mumbai is the biggest city by population in India. The city is incredibly diverse with something to suit every visitor. There’s colonial buildings sitting next to intricate temples, big budget Bollywood film sets, long beaches and some of the best street food in the world.
Jump straight in to the hustle and bustle at Chor Bazaar, a popular market that sells second hand and vintage items. Pick up a quirky antique for a unique souvenir. Crawford Market is also a great place to visit, with stalls selling an incredible range of fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and spices. The carvings on the walls were designed by Lockwood Kipling – Rudyard Kipling’s father.
It’s possible to book a tour of Film City where the Bollywood film industry is based. Bollywood makes over 100 movies a year and you can often glimpse filming taking place as you travel round the studios by bus. If you have time to spare, hang around Leopold’s Cafe on the Colaba Causeway. Casting scouts often visit here looking for film extras. Maybe you could be the next big star?
