DAILY TRAVEL INSPIRATION: Sousse

With warm winters and cooling sea breezes taking the edge of the summer heat, Sousse in Tunisia is a year round favourite. With plenty of hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, it’s a perfect choice for anyone looking for a more interesting alternative to the standard beach holiday.

Nonetheless, Sousse’s beaches are well worth a visit. The main beach is Boujaffar, with miles of soft sand to stretch out on. There’s also lots of opportunities for water sports with many hire companies lining the waterfront. In the evening it’s hard to beat a stroll along the beach or a sunset drink in one of the hotel bars overlooking the coast.

Away from the beach, check out the medina and older parts of Sousse. Enclosed behind 8 metre high walls built over a thousand years ago, you’ll find mosques, bustling souks and interesting museums covering several aspects of Tunisian history. Visit the Dar Essid museum, a house decorated in the style of a wealthy family in 1800s. There’s elaborate Spanish style tiling, Italian marble and French furniture alongside traditional Tunisian homewares.
